Basically India is an agricultural country with a present population of 135 crores. In 2025 it is expected to be 140 crores. As a result of which the cultivable land is also being reduced due to the ever increasing population. Therefore, applications of modern agricultural technologies are then only means by which the productivity and total food production can be achieved to feed the huge population of our country. In order to achieve this, workers equipped with the latest advanced agricultural technologies will be required. In pursuance of the above felt need, Susrijo Institute of Agricultural Science, Technology and Management (SIASTM), affiliated to the University of Kalyani, West Bengal has come up with two new Diploma courses in agricultural science namely,

1. Diploma in Agricultural Science and Management. (eligibility: 10+2 or equivalent) 2. Post-graduate Diploma in Crop Production and Plant Health Management. (eligibility : Graduate)

The purpose of these courses provided by the institute is to produce properly trained human resources equipped with modern agricultural technologies to serve at the base level of the rural areas. The courses have been designed in such a way so that the students get the proper technical knowhow of the recent advancements in agricultural sciences. The students will also get professional grooming from the high level management personals of corporate bodies as well as government officials. Our constant endeavour will be to train our students to take leadership roles in agri-business sectors dealing with insecticides, pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, fertilizers, micronutrients, bio-fertilisers, seeds, planting materials and many others.

Besides these, job oriented Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE) has also been introduced as a credit course in the curriculum through internship training. The initiative of ‘SIASTM’ for enhancing corporate linkages through ‘Mentor Groups’, academic lectures on relevant issues, knowledge partnership with corporate bodies and government officials provide an opportunity for our students to be acquainted with the prevailing working practices of the Government and corporate bodies. We firmly believe that the students trained at this institute will play a more effective role in serving the Nation.
